Yosi and Akin

Akin and 'Yosi first met as university classmates. Although they interacted only occasionally during their student years, their friendship deepened after graduation when they reconnected.

As their relationship grew, Akin expressed his desire to pursue a relationship with the goal of marriage. Together, they faithfully nurtured their relationship through the challenges of long-distance separation while studying abroad.

By God’s providence, they were eventually reunited in Canada. After 'Yosi, who had been raised Protestant, was welcomed into the Catholic Church, they celebrated the Sacrament of Matrimony at St. Matthew’s Parish.

Today, they are the grateful parents of two sons and strive to build a Christ-centered family rooted in faith, love, and service.

About Akin

Akin was baptized Catholic at a young age but did not actively practice the faith for much of his early life. During his undergraduate years, he became involved in a faith community, which inspired him to take his Catholic faith more seriously. Through many providential opportunities to be part of vibrant Catholic communities, his faith was renewed and strengthened. Today, he is always eager to share the Good News of Christ and encourage others in their journey of faith.

About Akin

'Yosi was raised in the Protestant faith and, from a young age, developed a deep love for God and the Christian life. Her faith journey eventually led her to the Catholic Church, where she was received into full communion and later confirmed.

Since then, she has continued to grow in her relationship with Christ through the sacraments, prayer, and active participation in the life of the Church. Embracing her Catholic faith wholeheartedly, 'Yosi strives to live it out intentionally each day.

As a wife and mother, she is dedicated to building a Christ-centered home rooted in faith, love, and devotion to God. Through her witness and commitment to family life, she seeks to nurture a home where Christ is at the center and faith is lived and shared with joy.

Advice for Couples Preparing for Marriage

We have no wiser words than those of Paul in his Letter to the Ephesians, which we also strive to live by. In it, Paul presents marriage as an icon of Christ and the Church, with all the implications that follow from this profound mystery.

Therefore, we urge married couples not to view their marriage as the world sees it, but as Christ does. "Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ." May the husband recognize his role as the head of the family—to lead and love sacrificially—and may the wife submit to her husband in love and trust.
